When Values And Actions Part Ways

My thirties were among the most successful years of my career. I was growing fast, climbing, achieving. And, paradoxically, they were also some of the unhappiest years of my life.

For a long time, that made no sense to me. Success and misery, side by side. How?

Looking back now, I understand it.

In the pursuit of getting ahead, I was doing things that went against what I actually believed in. I cut corners because it was quietly expected, though no one ever asked me to directly. I grew insecure and suspicious of the people around me, because I was competing unhealthily. I kept the wrong company just to fit in, just to blend.

None of it was a dramatic betrayal of myself. It was small, daily, almost invisible. But it added up.

Success could not fix it. If anything, it pulled me further from myself.

It took me years to see the simple truth underneath it all.

There can be no happiness when the things you believe in are different from the things you do.
