The Truth We Avoid
May 6, 2025
We often tell ourselves we’re sparing others. That’s why we don’t speak up, why we hold back, why we bend the truth.
But more often than not, it’s not kindness or generosity that holds us back from speaking up. It’s fear.
More examples…….
We say we’re “busy” when we just don’t feel like showing up.
We stay silent in a relationship that feels hollow—not to protect the other person, but because we’re not ready for the fallout.
At work, we spot a problem but stay quiet. Because we know the moment we raise it, we might own it.
Bottom line- we craft these half-truths not to shield others, but to shield ourselves from discomfort, responsibility, or change.
And while the rationalization may feel ok in the short term, in the long run, you lose your authenticity.
