That Immediate Next Step

In matters of personal and professional growth, confidence often proves more elusive than competence. While competence is tangible, with external measures guiding improvement, confidence is entirely intrinsic and an invisible factor in overcoming challenges.

Unfortunately, building confidence isn’t straightforward—it’s an attitude, not a formula.

So, how does one cultivate self-belief and bolster confidence?

From my personal experiences, I’ve learned that nothing builds confidence more than decisive action, especially in challenging situations. Action breeds both confidence and momentum.

When facing daunting tasks, it is essential to narrow your focus and concentrate on taking the immediate next step, bridging the gap between where you are currently and the immediate next step.

Let me give you an example. Suppose you are in the gym and aiming to do 25 push-ups, but after doing 15, you hit a mental block and feel like giving up. Instead of fixating on the goal of 25 push-ups, focus on completing the 16th and then the 17th, and continue as far as you can.

It’s always about taking the immediate next step and nothing more. Taking Action- That is perhaps the most critical driver of confidence.
