Karma Is A Bitch

You can make money honestly on repeat, or deceptively once.

I came across this line recently, not sure where, and it’s a trigger for today’s post because it captures my own experience rather well.

In my younger days, I’ve cut corners. I’ve taken the easy option. I’ve been clever when being clear would have been harder. At the time, it felt efficient. Smart, even.

Looking back, almost every one of those shortcuts came with a bill. And the pain I paid later was far greater than the discomfort I was trying to avoid in the moment.

I’ve seen this play out in selling, too. You can sell smart, hide the fine print, push something through. You’ll probably close the deal. Once. Or you can be transparent about what works and what doesn’t, what you can do and what you can’t. It will take longer, or, in some cases, cost you the deal. But it will be sustainable.

Same with relationships, partnerships, and teams. You can be convenient with the truth and get a short-term win. Or you can be straight and take the slower road.

I am a Hindu. We have a simple word for this: karma.

Do good, good finds its way back. Do shit because it’s convenient, and it catches up with you later. Always does.

I’ve spent half my life figuring out this simple truth. Karma is a bitch. Don’t trigger it on the wrong side. Choose the repeatable path, not the clever one.
