Suffering Is A Lead Indicator
April 22, 2026
I planned for something, fell short by 50%, and went through major disappointment. I went back to the drawing board, restarted, changed my execution approach, and recovered smartly.
I had never run a half-marathon before. I decided to test myself and trained intensely for three months. On the day of the run, by the 17th kilometer, my shins were hurting badly. Yet I braced through the pain and crossed the finish line, limping.
I did not get the promotion I thought I deserved. Fighting my own frustration, I continued and eventually got the promotion two years later. I felt a deep sense of satisfaction and accomplishment.
Big insight: Suffering makes the accomplishment that much more fulfilling.
