Self-Awareness
August 22, 2024
Whenever I interview someone, a question I always ask is – What is that one skill or discipline you are exceptionally good at that you can bring to the job? Some of them struggle to give a clear answer. It’s as if they are uncertain about their own abilities.
Every one of us is very good at something. You might think that what you are good at isn’t anything special compared to others, but that is not the point. Your strengths are unique to you, and you should be fully aware of and confident in them. When you are not, it points to a deeper issue- a lack of self-awareness needed to recognize and articulate your unique capabilities.
Self-awareness is about truly knowing yourself- understanding your beliefs, values, strengths, fears, and areas for improvement.
When you don’t know who you are, you leave yourself vulnerable, trying to become someone you’re not, and risk projecting a shallow, superficial version of yourself. You unconsciously diminish your own value by constantly comparing yourself to others.
The journey to self-awareness involves engaging deeply with your experiences, identifying what you want from life and career, and harnessing your strengths while addressing areas crucial for your growth.
At its core, self-awareness is essential for experiencing a sense of confidence and contentment in your life.
