Attitude Precedes Outcome
September 18, 2026
At work, we spend most of our energy chasing outcomes. Close the deal. Fix the problem. Hit the number. Get the project over the line.
But outcomes are downstream of something we pay far less attention to. The attitude we bring before the outcome ever shows up.
You cannot will a deal to close. You can genuinely understand what the customer is trying to solve. The close becomes more likely.
You cannot force a cross-functional project to run smoothly. You can bring an attitude of collaboration, assuming the other team is trying to help, not obstruct. The working relationship improves.
You cannot demand the right answer in a difficult meeting. You can stay curious, ask better questions, and resist rushing to a position. Better answers emerge.
You cannot force a difficult problem to disappear. You can stay with it after the easy ideas have run out. That persistence is often what eventually reveals the solution.
We spend a lot of time focusing on the outcome. But an outcome is a consequence, not an action.
What we can control is how we show up, how we think, and what attitude we bring to the situation.
Get the attitude right, and the outcomes have a much better chance of following.
